Why this exists

Some memories are running out of time.

The shoebox under the stairs. The VHS tape of the wedding. The grandkid you only see through grainy pictures. The names of the people in your dad's photos. The ones only your dad knew.

If we don't put these somewhere they belong, they go missing. Not all at once. A photo at a time. A name at a time. A story at a time.

  • 30 yearsHow long a VHS tape lasts before it starts to fail.
  • 1 in 4Family photos lost when the holder of the album passes.
  • ForeverYour originals are stored untouched. Every pixel, every frame.

How Memrial works

Three things, in the order you'd expect.

  1. 01

    Bring them in.

Drag photos and videos straight from your phone, computer, or scanner. The original file is stored exactly as it arrived, never compressed, never re-encoded.

    • Photos: JPG, PNG, HEIC, HEIF, GIF, WebP, TIFF, RAW
    • Videos: MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV
    • Old VHS digitisations welcome
  2. 02

    Add the people.

Tag who's in each photo once. Open Mum's profile and see every memory she's in across decades. The youngest grandkids learn everyone's faces by scrolling.

    • One tag per face. Works everywhere.
    • People profiles with full memory history
    • Connect the same person across linked archives
  3. 03

    Watch the stories come back.

Family members react, comment, and tell the story that goes with the picture. Old photos start collecting context they never had: names, dates, the nickname for that uncle, what year that holiday actually was.

    • Comments and ❤️ reactions on every memory
    • A timeline that runs from the 1950s to last weekend
    • Albums for events, holidays, lives

Found these in the box under the stairs. Is this the Easter Dad hid the eggs in the shed?

"Yes! That was the one Frank fell off the wall and we lost the egg in the rosebush. I still have it somewhere. 😂"

The living timeline

Watch a family story build itself.

This is what happens when your family starts adding their memories. Dates get pinned, names get tagged, and the comments turn into a story no photo could tell on its own.

Found this in Grandma's shoebox under the stairs. Tom (age 4) opening the big one. Look at that wrapping paper!

Finally got the old camcorder tapes converted. This is the summer of '94, the garden party where Tom fell in the pond. 😂

I remember that day! I was holding the camcorder and almost dropped it laughing. Best garden party we ever had. ❤️

Look at that haircut. I can't believe you uploaded this. Mum owes me £5 for every embarrassing photo you post.

Best £5 I ever spent. Wait till I find the one of you in the cowboy outfit. 🤠

The whole family in one photo. First time since 1992 we've all been in the same room. I love you all. ❤️

And just like that, three decades of photos, videos, and kitchen-table arguments are all in one place. 📸

Linking this to the cousins' archive so their timeline picks up Grandma too. One person, one profile, across every archive.

That is Grandad's old camcorder. I can still hear the zoom button.

We digitised 40 VHS tapes. Now every Sunday someone posts a clip, tags the people in it, and the comments turn into stories we would have lost.

Common questions

The things families usually ask first.

What is Memrial?

Memrial is a private family archive. Upload old photos, home videos, and family memories, then invite the people you want to share them with. Only your family ever sees it. No ads, no algorithms, no public profiles.

Is the free plan really free?

Yes. The Free plan never expires. No credit card required. You get real storage, real features, and real privacy. Upgrade only when your family needs more room.

What if I outgrow the free plan?

Upgrade in two clicks. Your archive carries over exactly as it is. No migration, no re-upload, nothing changes.

What happens to my photos if I cancel or downgrade?

Your files are always yours. After cancellation we give you a full 30-day closing window before anything is touched so you can take everything with you.

How do I get old VHS tapes onto Memrial?

Find a local digitisation shop and have the tape turned into a video file. Local shops are cheaper than postal services and your tapes stay nearby. Then upload the file. We accept MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV and most other video formats.

How many family members can I invite?

Every plan includes multiple seats. Invited members can upload photos and videos, comment, react, and tag the people in photos. The Free plan includes 2 members, and paid plans go up to unlimited.

Do you compress my originals?

Never. The exact file you upload stays untouched. We make small previews so the app loads fast, but your original is stored pixel-for-pixel with no compression or re-encoding.

What file types work?

Photos: JPG, PNG, HEIC, HEIF, GIF, WebP, TIFF, and RAW formats from common cameras. Videos: MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV. Old VHS digitisation files work fine. Max file size depends on your plan.

Is the archive really private?

Yes. Only the family members you invite can see anything. No public feeds, no search engine indexing, no ads, and no third-party tracking. On eligible plans you can optionally share one personal profile outside the archive.

How is Memrial different from Google Photos or iCloud?

Those are personal photo libraries for one user. Memrial is built for a whole family: shared timeline, people profiles, tagging, comments and reactions, with no compression and no advertising.

How safe is my data?

Originals are stored with encryption in transit and at rest, protected with redundant storage across multiple data centres. We maintain operational backup processes for recovery.

Can I switch plans later?

Yes, at any time. Upgrades happen instantly. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period. Your archive stays exactly as it is through every plan change.

Do I need to buy a plan for each person?

No. One plan covers everyone you invite. The higher plans are designed for extended households with a single bill, a single archive, and everyone included.

What is a personal profile page?

A page about one person gathering every memory they are tagged in. It lives inside your household and, on eligible plans, can be shared with relatives who do not use Memrial themselves.

What is cross-household linking?

If a grandparent appears in two different families' archives, linking marks them as the same person across both households so their memories merge into one timeline. Included on Home, Family, and Legacy plans.

How do you handle very large video files?

We accept files up to the plan's max upload limit. Videos are stored in their original format. Large uploads can take time depending on your connection. We recommend a fast, stable connection for big video files.
