Start with the tape, then choose the delivery
The clearest video offering in A-Team Media’s published details is “Tape converted to MP4 - £15”. That gives you a concrete service to discuss, but it does not settle every detail of a quotation. Before handing anything over, identify whether your recording is full-size VHS, a smaller camcorder cassette or another format. Send that information with the number of tapes and whatever running times appear on their labels.
Ask how the £15 charge is applied, whether a maximum recording length applies and whether VAT or other charges affect the total. The published material does not establish those conditions. A written quotation should also explain what happens if a tape is blank, partly recorded or cannot be played. Mention cracked cases, loose tape or visible contamination before arranging a handover; damaged-tape treatment should be discussed rather than assumed.
USB and download have different practical advantages
A-Team Media lists “Supplied on a USB - £10**” and “Digital link supplied for download - £10”. The USB entry includes a double-asterisk marker whose conditions are not established here. Confirm those conditions and whether delivery charges apply per order, per tape or in another way. Do not calculate a final bill simply by adding figures before the provider has explained their scope.
For your own decision, consider who will manage the files. A USB can be convenient for copying recordings onto a computer, while a download avoids needing a physical carrier. Neither route replaces a backup. If choosing a download, ask how long the link remains available and how large the files will be. If choosing USB, check whether you can supply your own drive and whether your intended television or computer can play the delivered files.
Slides can join the same family project
There is a second reason to contact A-Team Media if your recordings sit alongside older photographs. Its website says it can scan mounted slides, naming 35mm, 110 and negative, and publishes a charge of 50p per slide with discounts for larger orders. That figure belongs to slide scanning, not video conversion. Ask which items in your collection fit the stated service and request the relevant order conditions.
A practical approach is to sort slides and tapes into separate groups while keeping their family connections visible. A holiday slide tray and a cassette labelled with the same destination may belong together later, but each needs its own inventory now. Number containers, photograph handwritten labels and keep any dates or names that relatives recognise. Avoid guessing an exact year when the evidence only supports a decade.
Arrange the handover and inspect the result
A-Team Media publishes its Oldmeldrum address and invites enquiries by telephone; an email address is also listed. Use those contact routes to agree how to deliver your materials and when to expect the finished order. A published address alone does not establish opening hours or a walk-in arrangement.
When files arrive, check each recording against your inventory. Play the beginning, middle and end, listen to the sound and look for missing sections. If something seems wrong, retain the file as delivered and describe the issue clearly. Keep the physical originals, then make at least two digital copies in separate places. Name working copies descriptively, preserving the original filenames somewhere so you can trace any query back to the delivery.
From MP4 files to a private family archive
After conversion, Memrial can provide a separate private family archive for digital photos and home videos. It does not convert tapes and is not part of A-Team Media. Its free plan includes 2.0 GB of storage shared across the archive, with no card needed. Check file sizes before uploading a whole collection.
Invite relatives to help identify faces and add stories. Timeline uses exact or approximate dates so memories can be found by year, even when a label only gives a rough date. For a family birthday, Event Memories provides a secure contribution link: contributors sign in but need no archive membership, and their photos and videos collect in the event album. Closing the link keeps the memories.
Live Watch Parties synchronise an uploaded home video, with the host controlling play, pause and seek while relatives nearby or far away use voice or text chat. The free allowance is 3 hours each month with up to 6 participants. Watching together can help turn an unidentified recording into a remembered occasion.
