Convert2Digital VHS digitisation in Cardiff

Convert2Digital gives families comparing VHS digitisation in Cardiff a useful starting point: its published price page separates full-size VHS from several camcorder formats and describes delivery as an MP4 download. That distinction matters if your recordings span different cameras and decades. You can plan around the actual tape types in your collection, rather than treating every cassette as the same job. Before arranging a handover, confirm the appointment and address, as the website's contact address differs from the location in our listing.

A VHS quote with a three-hour limit

The published VHS conversion price includes transfer to a digital MP4 video file for tapes up to 3 hours in length. The listed rates are £20.00 per tape for 1-5 tapes, £18.50 per tape for 6-10, £17.00 per tape for 11-20, and £15.00 per tape for 21 or more. Files are sent through a download link by email or messenger.

Use those bands to frame an enquiry, then obtain a confirmed total for your own collection. The quoted details do not specify VAT treatment, the handling of recordings exceeding the duration limit, or whether different formats can be combined for a quantity band. A cassette's printed capacity may not tell you how much footage it contains, so note both the label and anything you remember about the recording.

Separate the camcorder tapes before counting

Convert2Digital also publishes MP4 conversion entries for Video 8, Hi 8 and Digital 8 with a 90-minute limit, MiniDV and HDV with a 63-minute limit, and VHS-C with a 45-minute limit. These are separate from the full-size VHS offer. If relatives have contributed recordings, ask them which camera they used and keep each format together when requesting a quote.

A simple inventory can give each cassette a number, its visible format and a short description such as 'school concert, probably mid-nineties'. Photograph the original labels before packing. Do not force an unfamiliar tape into a player to identify it. If you see mould, a cracked shell or loose tape, describe the problem and ask whether the provider can assess it; conversion should not be taken as a promise of repair.

Arrange the handover, then choose the output

The contact page says office hours are by appointment only and publishes 9 Beda Road, Canton, Cardiff CF5 1LW. Our contact listing now reflects that address, and the map matches its house number and road. Agree a time and confirm the practical handover and access arrangements before travelling.

MP4 downloads are the stated delivery method on the tape price page. The provider's conversion overview also mentions DVD and Blu-ray, and the price page lists a Standard DVD Package. Ask which physical options are currently available, what they cost and whether you would receive a digital file alongside them. For family sharing, an accessible video file is useful even if someone also wants a disc.

Agree how originals will be returned, when the work is expected to finish and how long the download will remain available. These are practical questions to settle before handing over irreplaceable recordings, rather than assumptions to make from the delivery format.

Check a download while the labels are still nearby

Once your files arrive, download them to a device you control and match each one to the inventory. Play the beginning, a few middle points and the end, checking both picture and sound. Pay attention to abrupt endings, missing sections or files that do not open. Keep a note of any concerns so you can describe the particular tape and point in the recording.

Retain the originals and keep another digital copy on a separate drive or other backup location. Rename working copies thoughtfully, retaining a record of the delivered names. A relative may recognise a birthday, holiday or voice that you cannot place, so invite their help with descriptions before treating an uncertain date as exact.

Turn labelled files into a shared family history

Memrial is a separate private family archive for the digital memories after conversion. It does not convert physical tapes and is not part of Convert2Digital. The free allowance is 2.0 GB shared across an archive, with no card needed. Check your video file sizes when deciding what to upload, and keep your independent backups.

Timeline accepts exact or approximate dates, helping relatives find memories by year even when a cassette only says 'summer holiday'. Live Watch Parties synchronise an uploaded home video, with the host controlling play, pause and seek and everyone able to use voice or text chat. Relatives nearby or far away can watch together; the free allowance is 3 hours per month with up to 6 participants.

For an anniversary gathering, Event Memories provides a secure occasion contribution link. Contributors sign in but do not need archive membership, and their photos and videos collect in the event album. Closing the link keeps the memories, so the gathering can add a new chapter alongside the older recordings.
