Match each recording to the right transfer service
DittoBee's standard video description names VHS, Hi8, MiniDV and VHS-C, with a limit of up to two hours per video. It also says PAL videos and Beta tapes can be transferred, with pricing determined case by case. Mention those formats when asking for an estimate, especially if relatives recorded some footage overseas.
Projector reels belong to a different service: the tape product expressly excludes 8mm and 16mm film. DittoBee separately lists film-reel digitization, as well as transfers of audio cassettes, vinyl discs and reel-to-reel audio. Keeping those categories apart helps you discuss the collection accurately and avoids treating a film or audio price as a videotape quote.
Put the published price beside the two-hour limit
The Video Tapes to Digital product displays $26.00 USD. Read that alongside the stated allowance of up to two hours per video, then request a quote for your actual tapes. Ask how recordings beyond that duration are handled, what the displayed amount covers and whether delivery media, shipping or taxes add to the total. PAL and Beta pricing needs an individual assessment.
DittoBee publishes a standard three-to-four-week turnaround, with expedited options available. If the footage is needed for a birthday or reunion, give the date when you first make contact and ask when your particular order could be ready. The general turnaround is useful for planning, but it is not a reserved completion date.
Arrange a Miami appointment or discuss shipping
DittoBee's contact page identifies its Miami location as appointment only. Arrange the visit before bringing your originals, and describe the number and types of items so the handover can be discussed in advance. A simple inventory with a unique number for every tape gives you and the recipient a shared reference.
For nationwide clients, DittoBee says it uses UPS and tracks packages traveling to and from the business. Ask for its packing and shipping instructions before sending anything. Keep photographs of tape labels and your inventory. If a cassette looks damaged, has a broken case or shows suspected mold, describe the problem and ask whether it can be assessed; do not try playing it just to establish what is recorded.
Choose delivery and inspect the MP4 files
The video service specifies MP4, while DittoBee's general delivery information offers a USB flash drive or a private download link and says originals are returned. Confirm which delivery choice applies to your order and how files will be named. A download may suit relatives in different households; a drive gives you a physical copy to work from.
When the files arrive, compare them with the inventory before putting the tapes away. Play the beginning, middle and end of each recording, check the sound and look for missing sections. Keep an untouched copy of the delivered files, then use separate copies for any trimming or renaming. Retain the original tapes and maintain another digital backup on a separate drive or storage service.
Use the recovery window alongside your own backups
DittoBee says customers can request a replacement copy of digitized files for up to five years after digitization. Ask how to request that copy and whether any conditions or charges apply. Record the order details somewhere you can find them later.
That recovery option can be helpful, but keeping your own organized copies makes everyday access easier. Ask a relative to identify people or places before memories become harder to reconstruct. Preserve an uncertain date as approximate, and keep the original label wording in your notes instead of silently replacing it with a guess.
Bring relatives into the recordings after conversion
Memrial is a separate private family archive for digital memories after conversion. It does not convert physical tapes or form part of DittoBee's service. Its free plan includes 2.0 GB of shared archive storage with no card needed. Invite relatives, organize photos and home videos into albums, and add comments and stories. Timeline uses exact or approximate dates to help you find memories by year.
For a family anniversary, a Live Watch Party can synchronize an uploaded home video for relatives nearby or far away. The host controls play, pause and seeking, with voice and text chat alongside playback. Free Watch Parties include three hours per month and up to six participants.
Event Memories can gather the anniversary's new photos and videos through a secure occasion contribution link. Contributors sign in but do not need archive membership; uploads collect in the event album. Closing the link keeps the contributed memories, so the occasion can sit beside the older recordings.
