One enquiry for several generations of videotape
Jeet Video's video page names VHS, S-VHS and VHS-C, plus Video8, High-8 and Digital8. It also lists MiniDV, DVCAM, HDV, Beta, BetaCAM and uMatic tapes. If relatives used different cameras over the years, those distinctions matter: two cassettes that look roughly alike may require different playback equipment.
Start with an inventory that copies the format printed on each cassette, then add any handwritten title and a simple reference number. Photograph unfamiliar tapes rather than guessing. Keep the original labels intact, and tell the provider about cracked cases, loose tape, mould or past playback trouble. Ask whether it can assess those particular problems before sending anything; the format list alone does not establish a repair or restoration service.
Make the price enquiry specific to your VHS collection
The website's video page advertises a Beta tape web special at CAD $29.75 per hour, with a minimum one-hour charge per tape, delivered on DVD or as an .mp4 file. This is a Beta offer. It does not establish the price for a VHS cassette, even when both tapes contain a similar length of footage.
For VHS, request a quote using your inventory and any known recording lengths. Ask how partially filled tapes are charged, how blank sections affect the bill, whether there are minimum charges, and whether tax, storage media or additional copies are included. An estimated duration is useful, but write 'unknown' where needed. There is little value in repeatedly playing a fragile tape just to produce a more precise estimate.
Choose a file or disc around how you will watch
Jeet Video's services page lists Blu-ray disc, DVD disc and .mp4 files as delivery choices for digital video. Confirm which choices apply to your particular tape order and what is included. A disc can suit someone who already watches through a disc player, while a file is easier to organise on a computer and add to a private family archive.
Before deciding, ask how files are supplied and whether they arrive separately by tape or as a combined recording. Keep a copy of the delivered files in their original form before renaming or editing anything. Check the beginning, middle and end of each recording, listen to the sound, and compare the result with your inventory. Report missing sections or mismatched labels promptly, and keep the physical originals after conversion.
Plan a weekday visit or a carefully packed shipment
The published address is 6801 - 104 Street, Edmonton, Alberta, T6H 2L5. The website lists Monday to Friday hours of 8 AM to 5 PM, with Saturdays, Sundays and holidays closed. Confirm arrangements before travelling, particularly if you need to discuss a mixed collection or a damaged tape.
For customers outside the Edmonton area, Jeet Video describes sending material with its printed order form using a shipping service of the customer's choice. Under its 'Free Return Shipping in Canada' heading, it says it provides free return shipping for all processed orders for customers outside the Edmonton area. Confirm what will be returned, the packing arrangements and any conditions relevant to your order. Keep your own inventory and photographs, and use sturdy packaging that prevents cassettes moving around.
Turn a converted recording into a family reference
Once conversion is complete, Memrial provides a separate private family archive for digital memories. It does not convert tapes and is not part of Jeet Video. The free plan includes 2.0 GB of storage shared across the archive, with no card needed. Keep another backup of the delivered files as well.
Invite relatives to help identify people and places through comments and stories. Timeline uses exact or approximate dates to make memories findable by year, so an uncertain summer holiday can still have a useful place. Live Watch Parties synchronise an uploaded home video with host play, pause and seek controls plus voice and text chat for relatives near or far. Free Watch Parties allow 3 hours each month and up to 6 participants.
For a reunion, Event Memories provides a secure occasion contribution link. Contributors sign in but do not need archive membership; their photos and videos collect in the event album. Closing the link keeps the memories. That can bring newly recorded moments together with an older family video without leaving contributions scattered among messages.
