Match your cassettes to the transfer listing
The VHS service describes direct transfer of VHS and VHS-C tapes to MP4. Precision Transfers also publishes a Super VHS transfer product and lists Mini DV / DV transfer separately. A small cassette is not automatically VHS-C, so read the format printed on the shell rather than grouping everything by size. Make a simple inventory with a tape number, format, handwritten title and any known recording date.
Keep uncertain labels intact. A title such as Christmas may refer to several years, and a camcorder cassette can contain more than one occasion. Ask relatives what they recognize, recording their suggestions separately from confirmed dates. If a cassette has a broken shell, visible contamination or a history of jamming, describe it to the provider before sending it. Do not assume the standard transfer listing includes repair or restoration.
Read the prices alongside your order choices
The VHS product displays a sale price of $19.90 and a regular price of $25.10. Super VHS shows $30.20 sale and $37.75 regular, while the Mini DV / DV listing shows $21.00 sale and $26.20 regular. These are the displayed dollar amounts for their respective listings, not an interchangeable rate for every format. Before budgeting a collection, confirm the applicable price, charging unit, recording-length conditions, taxes and any delivery or additional-media costs.
The VHS service includes a choice between return and recycling of the original tape, according to the option selected with the order. Consider choosing return if you want to inspect the converted files before making a permanent decision about your cassettes. Keep your inventory and order confirmation together so you can match the returned tapes and files without relying on memory.
Plan a London handover or tracked shipment
Precision Transfers advertises local pick-up and drop-off, and its contact page gives 4575 Blakie Road, second floor, London, Ontario. Published hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. Its ordering instruction is to place your order before scheduling an appointment. Arrange the handover before travelling, especially if you need help carrying a large collection or accessing the second floor.
For shipping, the VHS page asks customers to use a tracked method. The website offers free return shipping anywhere in Canada on orders over $150; that statement concerns return shipping, so confirm the outward shipping arrangements separately. The VHS page publishes an approximate turnaround of 2-3 weeks. If the video is needed for a birthday or reunion, check timing for your particular order and allow for transport as well as processing.
Check the MP4 files before putting tapes away
MP4 is the stated output for the VHS service. Ask how those files will be delivered and how the tape labels will relate to their filenames. It helps to know whether a long recording will arrive as one file or several, particularly when a single tape covers unrelated occasions. These are useful order questions rather than promises about the provider's file organization.
After delivery, open every file on the device you expect to use. Sample the beginning, middle and end, listen to the sound, and check recognizable scenes against your inventory. Precision Transfers lists six months of local backup storage for the VHS service. Use that period as a reason to check your copies promptly, while keeping your own backup on a separate device. Provider storage should not be your only lasting copy.
Bring the recordings into your family's everyday life
Once conversion is complete, Memrial provides a separate private family archive for digital memories. It does not convert tapes or form part of Precision Transfers. You can upload home videos and photos, organize albums and invite relatives to add comments and stories. The free allowance is 2.0 GB shared across the archive, with no card needed. Compare your video file sizes with that allowance before planning what to upload.
Timeline accepts exact or approximate dates, helping you find memories by year even when nobody remembers the day. A relative might identify a school concert as the early nineties; that is still useful context. Live Watch Parties synchronize an uploaded home video through the host's play, pause and seek controls, with voice and text chat for relatives nearby or far away. Free Watch Parties allow 3 hours per month and up to 6 participants.
For a reunion, Event Memories gives you a secure occasion contribution link. Contributors sign in but do not need archive membership, and their photos and videos collect in the event album. Closing the link keeps those memories. Pairing newly contributed pictures with an older recording can give relatives an easy starting point for identifying faces and telling the stories the tape itself cannot explain.
