VHS alongside the tapes from your camcorder
Sangeet lists VHS, S-VHS and VHS-C among its accepted formats. Its conversion list also names Mini DV, Video 8, 8mm, Hi8, Digital 8, Micro MV, Mini DVD, Betamax and Mini HDV. That breadth matters if the living-room recorder and the family camcorder used different media: identify each item separately instead of describing the whole collection as VHS.
Read the markings on each cassette and photograph anything uncertain. A small tape is not necessarily VHS-C, and a handwritten label usually tells you about the occasion rather than the recording format. Make a numbered list with the format, label and any visible condition concerns. Ask Sangeet to confirm uncertain formats before handing over the collection, particularly where the word 8mm might refer to a tape or a film reel.
Choose a usable result before agreeing the transfer
The website describes several distinct services. Cine film can be transferred to DVD or USB; DVD and Blu-ray conversion is listed as USB delivery in MP4; audio cassettes are described as MP3 files delivered on USB or CD. These details belong to their respective services. They do not, by themselves, establish the file format or delivery medium for a VHS order.
For your tapes, ask whether you will receive video files, discs or both, and request the file type and naming arrangement. Explain where you intend to watch them: a television, laptop or private family archive. If editable or shareable files are your priority, make that explicit before conversion. Ask how separate recordings on one cassette will be handled and whether extra copies are available, with their costs included in the quote.
Ask for a tape-specific quote and completion date
Sangeet's contact information says payment is required only after conversion has been successfully completed. Ask what the total covers and how unrecorded sections, unusually long tapes or unreadable items affect the charge. For a collection containing film as well as tapes, request separate lines for each service: two published cine-film pages give different USB supplements, so that detail needs direct confirmation rather than borrowing either amount for VHS.
The homepage advertises same-day or 1-2 day availability for large-format photo printing. That is a printing statement, not a promised tape-conversion timescale. Get a completion estimate for your particular collection, especially if a birthday or anniversary is approaching. Before arranging a handover, also confirm collection or shipping arrangements and how the original media will be returned.
Prepare the originals and check the returned recordings
Keep labels and cassette cases together, and give each item the same number as your inventory. Note any broken housing, loose tape or suspected mould and ask whether it can be assessed. Do not try to clean or repair a questionable cassette simply to make it ready for transfer. Tell relatives you are gathering recordings; someone may recognise an unlabeled wedding or have another copy of an important scene.
When the files arrive, compare them with the inventory and sample the beginning, middle and end of each recording. Check that the sound plays and that the files open on your intended device. Raise missing material or playback problems promptly. Keep the original tapes and make a separate backup of the digital files; a USB drive used for delivery should not become the family's only copy.
From a transferred tape to a family occasion
After conversion, Memrial offers a separate private family archive for digital photos and home videos. It does not convert tapes and is not part of Sangeet's transfer service. The free archive includes 2.0 GB of shared storage with no card needed. Invite relatives, organise albums and add comments or stories. Timeline accepts exact or approximate dates, so a recording remembered only as a summer in the 1990s can still be found by year.
For an anniversary, a Live Watch Party can synchronise an uploaded home video for relatives nearby or far away. The host controls play, pause and seek, with voice and text chat alongside the recording. Free Watch Parties include 3 hours per month and up to 6 participants. Event Memories can gather new anniversary photos through a secure occasion contribution link: contributors sign in but need no archive membership, uploads enter the event album, and closing the link keeps the memories.
