One tape price across several video formats
The published guide price for VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, 8mm and Hi8 tapes is £17.50 each. That gives you a clear starting figure for counting a mixed collection of video cassettes. It does not establish a recording-length allowance, tax treatment or charges for additional work, so request a total for your actual tapes before handing them over. Ask about the expected completion date at the same time.
Keep cine film separate when making your inventory. Priors Photos lists Standard 8mm and Super 8 film reels at £17.50 each for 3-inch reels, £35.00 each for 5-inch reels and £70.00 each for 7-inch reels. Those are film-reel prices, distinct from 8mm video tapes. Audio cassettes have their own published guide price of £17.50 each.
Photographs can help explain the footage
A wedding video may become easier to place when its photographs sit beside it. Priors Photos scans loose prints, larger prints, slides, negatives and album pages. Guide prices start at £0.50 per loose photo and £0.85 per larger print up to A4; slides and negatives are listed at £0.50 per image. Album page scanning, with each photograph saved as an individual image, starts at £2.00 per page.
If photographs need removing from albums or frames, the business says this can be included and priced accordingly. Before dismantling a fragile album yourself, ask how it should be supplied. Photograph handwritten captions and the original page arrangement too: an individual image may show the people clearly, while the surrounding page explains the occasion.
Decide whether organising belongs in the project
Priors Photos also lists printed photo organising at £40 per hour. Digital organising guide prices start at £250 for a single source, £500 for two sources, £1,000 for multiple sources and £1,500 for larger digital archive projects. Final pricing depends on the number of sources, file volume and the collection's existing organisation. These are separate organising services, rather than additions you should assume are included in tape conversion.
Metadata entry, such as adding dates, captions or keywords, is listed at £40 per hour. Decide which questions need a relative's knowledge before paying for detailed work. Someone may recognise a school uniform or remember which summer a trip happened; write down their explanation and any uncertainty, rather than assigning a precise date without a basis.
Match the returned files to how you will watch
The website says files can be returned by USB, hard drive, disc or cloud transfer. Confirm which option applies to your conversion and whether the storage medium costs extra. The delivery method alone does not tell you the video file type. Ask for a format your computer or television can play, and discuss whether the files will also suit uploading to a private family archive.
Give each tape a simple number and keep a matching list of its label and known contents. Flag mould, broken shells or tapes that previously jammed, and ask what is possible before trying them in a player. On delivery, open every file, check sound and picture at several points, and compare the contents with your inventory. Keep the originals and make a second digital copy on separate storage.
Use the support window, then keep your own archive
Priors Photos' privacy policy says client photo and digital project files are kept for up to 60 days after delivery to allow support and fixes. That is a reason to check your files promptly and raise any questions, rather than treating the provider's copy as permanent storage.
After conversion, Memrial offers a separate private family archive for photos and home videos. It does not convert tapes and is not part of Priors Photos. Its free allowance is 2.0 GB shared across the archive, with no card needed. Invite relatives, group memories into albums and add stories. Timeline accepts exact or approximate dates, helping everyone find a recording by year even when nobody remembers the day.
Let relatives watch and contribute together
A converted birthday recording can become a shared evening through Memrial's Live Watch Parties. Uploaded home-video playback is synchronised, with the host controlling play, pause and seek while relatives nearby or far away use voice and text chat. The free plan includes three Watch Party hours per month and up to six participants.
For a new birthday or family reunion, Event Memories provides a secure occasion contribution link. Contributors sign in but do not need archive membership to add photos and videos. Their uploads collect in the event album, and closing the link keeps the memories. It gives relatives a practical way to add today's pictures beside the older recordings they have just enjoyed.
