Sort VHS and camcorder tapes before ordering
Vidley Digital lists VHS, VHS-C, 8mm video tapes, MiniDV, MiniDVD and DVDs among the media it can digitize. Its list also includes cassette audio tapes, film and slides, and SD and miniSD cards. If your collection mixes large home-video cassettes with smaller camcorder tapes, describe each type when asking about an order. Photographing the labels and cassette shapes can help avoid confusion between formats.
Before packing, make a simple inventory with one number per item. Record the label exactly, then add any dates or people you recognize. Keep guesses separate from confirmed details. Set aside visibly damaged tapes and ask whether they can be accepted; do not try playing a cassette with a broken shell, loose tape or suspected mold. This preparation is general advice, rather than a statement of Vidley's handling requirements.
Palm Beach County drop-off or shipping
Vidley's process allows customers to drop off or ship media. For Palm Beach County drop-off, its FAQ says to select that option when ordering and follow the instructions in the confirmation email. Downtown West Palm Beach is the published location description; it does not supply a street address in the evidence available here. Follow the order instructions before making a trip.
Shipping instructions also arrive in the confirmation email. Return shipping is selected at checkout, and the FAQ says the cost of returning original media is included in the final invoice if you request that return. Decide this before sending a collection you want to keep. Retain your inventory and packing photographs so you can compare the returned tapes with what you sent.
An unedited transfer with a 4 to 8 week estimate
Vidley says it digitizes tapes as recorded and does not offer restoration, enhancement or editing. Existing static, blue screens and choppy sections can therefore remain in the digital copy. That distinction matters if your aim is to rescue a damaged recording or produce an edited family film: discuss the tape's condition and your intended result before ordering.
The published general processing estimate is 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the number of tapes. Separately, Vidley says digitized files become available in its cloud within 24 hours after payment is received. The latter describes access to completed files, rather than the time needed to transfer the tapes. Ask for an order-specific estimate if you are preparing for a reunion or anniversary.
Cloud downloads, USB service and the 90-day window
Vidley describes cloud access and a USB service that places digitized files onto a provided USB. Ask what file type you will receive, whether it works on your intended devices, and what the USB arrangement requires. A downloadable file can be useful for making backups and sharing with relatives, but confirm the details before choosing your delivery option.
The FAQ gives customers 90 days to access and download their digitized files, after which the files are removed from Vidley's system. It also offers Vidley Vault cloud storage for $30 per year, with annual storage beginning on day 91 when extended storage is arranged. Whatever you choose, download your files early and keep an independent copy.
Watch past the static before filing your videos
Match every delivered file to your inventory and check that it opens, plays and has audible sound where expected. Vidley recommends watching videos in their entirety because footage may appear after blank or static sections. A short preview can miss a second recording farther along the same tape.
Invite a relative to help identify people and approximate years as you watch. Give files clear names while preserving the delivered versions, and keep copies in two separate places. If you requested the originals back, store them safely after checking the return. Retaining both tapes and files leaves you options if a device fails or you later revisit the collection.
A reunion viewing and a private family archive
Memrial is a separate private family archive for digital memories after conversion. It does not transfer physical tapes. Its free plan includes 2.0 GB of storage shared across the archive, with no card needed. Add photos and home videos, invite relatives, and use albums, comments and stories to give recordings context. Timeline accepts exact or approximate dates so a family can find memories by year even when a cassette only says 'summer.'
For a reunion, a Live Watch Party can synchronize an uploaded home video for relatives nearby or far away. The host controls play, pause and seek, with voice and text chat alongside playback. Free Watch Parties allow 3 hours per month and up to 6 participants. Event Memories provides a secure occasion contribution link: contributors sign in without needing archive membership, uploads collect in the event album, and closing the link keeps the memories.
