Different cassette labels need different answers
The lab lists Digital 8 Video Tape Digitizing at $34.95 and Betamax or Betacam Tape Digitizing at $89.00. Its Audio Cassette Tape Digitizing listing shows $34.99. These are prices attached to those named services, not a VHS quote. The published excerpts do not explain duration allowances, tax, delivery media, or other charges, so ask for a total based on the actual items you want transferred.
Read the format printed on each cassette rather than grouping everything under “old videos.” Digital 8, VHS, and audio cassette recordings call for different playback equipment. If a label is unclear, describe the markings and dimensions to the lab or ask whether a photograph would help identify it. For VHS specifically, confirm acceptance and pricing before handing anything over.
Film photographs can be part of the same family project
Legacy Photo Lab of Dallas also publishes scanning listings for 35mm film rolls, APS film, 120 film rolls, and 35mm film strips. That gives you a useful second avenue when a collection includes negatives as well as recorded celebrations. Ask about each photographic format separately, including how the available scanning options affect the final files and quote.
You might have photographs from a birthday and a video of the candles being blown out. Keep those items associated while making an inventory, even if they require separate services. A simple note with the occasion, likely year, and people pictured will be useful later. Keep uncertain guesses marked as guesses; a relative may recognize a school uniform or a familiar kitchen and narrow down the date.
Arrange the visit around the collection you have
The website gives the address as 10220 East Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75238, and publishes hours of 10am to 6pm Monday through Friday and 10am to 3pm Saturday and Sunday. It also advertises free store pickup. Confirm arrangements for your particular order before traveling, especially if you need help identifying formats or intend to bring several different kinds of material.
Number the items and make a short inventory before delivery. Record existing labels without peeling them off, and note tapes with damaged cases, loose tape, or visible contamination. Ask whether the lab can assess those problems and whether assessment or repair costs extra. Avoid playing a suspect cassette simply to discover what is on it. Keep the inventory for checking what comes back.
Choose files you can actually use at home
Before agreeing to a transfer, explain how you hope to watch the result: on a computer, on a television, or with relatives using their own devices. Ask what digital file format and delivery method are available, whether long recordings become multiple files, and how files will be named. Request a clear completion estimate and confirmation that your originals will be returned. These are questions to settle with the lab, not promises established by its service listings.
When the files arrive, open every one and check the beginning, a few middle points, and the ending. Listen for sound and compare the contents with your inventory. Keep an unchanged copy of the delivered files before making edits. Store a backup separately from your everyday device, and retain the physical originals while you decide whether the digital results cover everything you expected.
Let relatives help put names and years to the results
Once conversion is finished, Memrial offers a separate private family archive for digital photos and home videos. It does not convert tapes and is not part of Legacy Photo Lab of Dallas. The free plan includes 2.0 GB of storage shared across the archive, with no card needed. Check file sizes before deciding which recordings and photographs to upload first.
Timeline accepts exact or approximate dates, so a recording remembered only as “summer during elementary school” can still be found by year. Invite relatives to add comments and stories that explain who appears and what was happening. Live Watch Parties synchronize an uploaded home video, with the host controlling play, pause, and seeking, plus voice and text chat for relatives nearby or far away. Free Watch Parties include 3 hours per month and up to 6 participants.
For a family reunion, Event Memories provides a secure contribution link for the occasion. Contributors sign in but do not need archive membership to add photos and videos to the event album. Close the link when contributions are finished; the collected memories remain. That lets newly taken reunion photos sit alongside older transferred recordings, with the family adding context while everyone is together.
